Karen is an educator, lifelong learner, and a passionate advocate for inclusive education and employment opportunities. With a heart dedicated to encouraging and supporting others to succeed, she has spent over 30 years working with Indigenous communities and organizations in a variety of roles. These have included positions in education, workforce development, band management, and consulting services, not only in her home province of New Brunswick but also in Ontario.
Karen holds a Master of Education degree from the University of New Brunswick, a diploma in Paralegal Studies, and is a Certified Life Coach. She is also trained in Negotiations and Mediation, Crisis Management, and Diversity and Inclusion practices. Her commitment to personal and professional growth reflects her deep belief in the power of education and empowerment.
Throughout her career, Karen has worked closely with both Indigenous communities and mainstream industries to create and implement impactful programs and initiatives, including the Indigenous Employment and Training programs. One notable achievement was her involvement in the Archaeologist Training program with Energy East/TransCanada Pipeline, which provided valuable skills and opportunities for Indigenous individuals in the workforce.
Additionally, Karen has collaborated with both provincial and federal governments to advocate for inclusive work environments and procurement opportunities, ensuring Indigenous businesses and individuals are given equal access to resources and employment. Her ongoing work continues to break down barriers, advocate for systemic change, and create pathways to success for Indigenous communities.
